Mermaid Dolly and the Lighthouse Cat - Sea Maiden 32

Mermaid with cat art and story by Robert Kline

This wonderful mermaid with cat print is avalable in the following matted sizes (entire matted size): 5" x 7", 8" x 10" and 11" x 14".

This beautiful Mermaid Dolly and the Lighthouse cat art and story comes from a collection of Sea Maidens (mermaids), Sea Babies (mermaid babies), Sea Masters (merman), pirateslighthouses and fairies created by renowned artist and novelist Robert Kline of St. Augustine, Florida.  The print is a lithograph reproduction of Robert’s original watercolor and pencil painting. Hand labeled and signed by Robert in pencil, all the prints come with a 1/4″ foam backing and the 5″ x 7″, 8″ x 10″, 11″ x 14″ are matted so all you need is a frame and they are ready to hang on your wall! Each print also comes with an excerpt from Robert’s novel The Forgotten Voyage of H.M.S. Baci. A fantastic saga in which multiple generations of the Roberts’ family explore the seven seas in search of the world’s mermaid and merman population. Thus, you receive the passage from Robert’s novel describing the particular event in which the character(s) in the print were sighted. The following is the excerpt written for Mermaid Dolly and the Lighthouse Cat print:

Edmund C. Roberts and the triplets, Sara-Sue-Marie, crouched behind the dune and watched in near-silence. There in the shadows of the lighthouse a Sea Maiden and a black and white cat sat counter-posed, rapt and oblivious to the voyeurs. At last Sara whispered, “I heard onst that Sea Maidens and cats and lighthouses are a sailor’s only friends.” She smiled to herself and continued, “ It’d be simple enough: yer Sea Maiden takes care of his dreams, a cat keeps him rid of rats, and a lighthouse keeps away a sailor’s worst nightmare – the lee shore.” She broadened her smile and concluded, “I leant that from Stumpy Pete---he teaches me everything I need to know about sailors and such.”

With that both the cat and the Sea Maiden looked in their direction.

Sue hissed, “Jolly great job!”

Marie didn’t react.

Edmund C. Roberts groaned, “Is it asking too much to expect a modicum of cooperation from you three heathens?”

By the time the interlopers looked back, the only thing as they had seen it was the lighthouse---tall, orange brick and silent. Bothe the Sea Maiden and the cat had disappeared like magic. That evening, back aboard the Baci Finale, the lighthouse keeper, their dinner guest, explained, “We’ve had a black and white cat on the ground since as far back as anyone can remember. Each one called “Nelly”, and each one able to communicate with the local Sea Maidens. Laugh if you wish, but it’s true enough.”

Robert’ journal entry reads:

Saw our 32nd Sea Maiden, She in the company of a black and white cat. Sighted on the beach below the lighthouse at Ponce Inlet.
